Position Description:Clinical Psychiatrist

The Department of Psychiatry within the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a board certified or board eligible psychiatrist to join our clinical track faculty and the IDMI (Intellectual Disability/Mental Illness) program. This program provides interdisciplinary, comprehensive, patient centered care to adults with co-occurring mental illness, intellectual disability and challenging behavior in the outpatient setting and inpatient setting. Clinical work for this position will include teaching and patient care in the outpatient and/or inpatient setting. We will closely with you to optimize your clinical assignment based on your interests and career goals. The position is a 1.0 FTE and consists of 80% clinical time and 20% academic time. All members of the Psychiatry faculty group share weekday, weekend and holiday coverage of the inpatient and consult services.
The Department of Psychiatry offers specialized training to medical students, residents, social workers, nurses, psychologists, and advanced practice providers. In 2022 the Department developed a specialized Intellectual Disability Track for residents. We currently have 3 exceptional residents on this track. These include studies in neuroimaging, genetics, epidemiology, psychopharmacology, neuropsychology, and basic neuroscience. The Department of Psychiatry is made up of more than 90 full-time faculty members who provide national and international leadership across a range of psychiatric areas, such as child psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, eating disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, medical psychiatry, and community psychiatry.
